CRISIS RETOLD, BFA DEGREE PROJECT, 2019

Crisis Retold is a design research project which delves into the complexity surrounding Sweden’s national emergency preparedness and defence to war crisis on a holistic level. The project aims to critically question what a safe space is in society and challenge dominant narratives of crisis. The research is visualised through a series of digital collage posters, demonstrating the unstable nature of crisis influenced by our shared history and present precursors. The work is accompanied with a film A Safe Space which retells the narrative of shelter rooms as a neglected space through performance and assemblage of archive footage. As part of the research, design students were engaged in a narrative-building workshop where they utilised performance, spoken word and a selection of archival and contemporary images depicting crisis and war.

Work exhibited at Kulturparken Småland, Växjö, May 2019.
